About

Award-winning photographer and Director Ondrea Barbe

Ondrea Barbe is based in Santa Cruz, California, with a practice that spans celebrity portraiture, beauty and fashion photography, fine art, editorial, and commercial campaigns. Ondrea studied photography in France before spending over two decades in New York City, where she built a celebrated career photographing some of the most iconic actresses of our time - among them Sigourney Weaver, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Laura Linney, and Juliette Binoche. Her portraits are recognized for their emotional depth, their honesty, and their ability to reveal something true about a person in a single frame.

The Work

For more than twenty years, Ondrea has used photography and filmmaking to explore the full spectrum of human experience - Beauty, Connection, Struggle, and Joy. Whether she's directing a celebrity portrait session or composing a photograph of a single flower, her approach is the same: to look past the surface and bring out the visceral presence beneath it. She believes that light is not just a technical element - it is energy. Color and texture are expressions of that energy, and capturing them on camera is, in a very real sense, capturing the vibrations of life itself. Her photographs of flowers are not decorative. They are studies in vitality - in the way light moves through living things and mirrors the emotional states we carry inside us. "When I photograph flowers, I am documenting the delicate interplay of light's vibrations and how they reflect the vitality of life - a shared energy between the natural world and our human experience. Through these interactions, light becomes more than a visual phenomenon; it's a bridge between the physical and the emotional, connecting us to the world and to each other." This philosophy extends to every portrait she makes. Ondrea composes and directs to draw out inner beauty - not the performed kind, but the kind that exists in a moment of genuine presence, when a person stops holding themselves together and simply is.
